You will find, Mingo Creek Park all its, (2,600 acres) off Route 136. It is 12 miles east of the City of Wash­ing­ton. This park is a great fam­ily park with pic­nic shel­ters, play­ground areas and ball fields. Mingo Creek trav­els through the park and two cov­ered bridges (Ebenezer & Henry) which both span the creek. Horse enthu­si­asts can enjoy 15 miles of bri­dle trails. There are also areas for Bicy­cle rid­ers and hik­ers. Annual events at the park include nature walks, hayrides, day camps, nee­dle and yarn work­shops, arts and crafts and the pop­u­lar Cov­ered Bridge Fes­ti­val. Of which all the sur­round­ing areas, par­tic­i­pate in yard, garage, and per­sonal sales dur­ing the time of this fes­ti­val. To “catch the tourists” while they are in the area.

Located on Pittsburgh’s North Side, this museum pro­vides insight into con­tem­po­rary art and pop­u­lar cul­ture. Andy Warhol is one of the most influ­en­tial Amer­i­can artists of the 20th cen­tury and a Pitts­burgh native!

Carnegie Muse­ums of Art & Nat­ural History

This out­stand­ing museum com­plex fea­tures one of the worlds best known col­lec­tions of dinosaurs, an inter­ac­tive fos­sil dig, gems and min­er­als, a hall of archi­tec­ture, and a large col­lec­tion of old mas­ter­pieces and mod­ern paint­ings. You can even visit from home with their out­stand­ing online exhibits.

Cathe­dral of Learn­ing & Nation­al­ity Rooms

The sec­ond tallest edu­ca­tion build­ing in the world may not sound all that excit­ing, but this his­toric gothic land­mark offers a great view of Oak­land and down­town Pitts­burgh. Don’t miss the inter­na­tion­ally renowned Nation­al­ity Class­rooms, 26 rooms dec­o­rated to rep­re­sent an indi­vid­ual coun­try or culture.

Frick Car and Car­riage Museum

If you’re a lover of his­tory and/or old cars, then a won­der­ful way to while away a Pitts­burgh after­noon is at the Car and Car­riage Museum of the Frick Art & His­tor­i­cal Cen­ter. Other ways to spend your time here include the Frick Art Museum, the Green­house, the Frick children’s play­house, and Clay­ton, the restored Frick fam­ily home.

Hart­wood Acres & Mansion

A beau­ti­ful man­sion and strik­ing sta­ble are the cen­ter­piece of this Allegheny County park. The out­door amphithe­ater plays host to con­certs and the horse trails are pop­u­lar for rid­ing and walk­ing. Man­sion tours offered year-round.

Ken­ny­wood Amuse­ment Park

One of only two amuse­ment parks in the coun­try to be des­ig­nated a National His­toric Land­mark, Ken­ny­wood is home to three won­der­ful wooden coast­ers and an impres­sive col­lec­tion of clas­sic rides. Located in West Mif­flin, Allegheny County, just 12 miles south­east of down­town Pittsburgh.

Mt. Wash­ing­ton — Inclines & Overlooks

Phipps Con­ser­va­tory and Botan­i­cal Gardens

Des­ig­nated as a National His­toric Land­mark, Phipps Con­ser­va­tory and Botan­i­cal Gar­dens in Pitts­burgh is one of the largest Vic­to­rian green­houses in the coun­try. Learn about the rooms and flower exhibits, plus infor­ma­tion on hours, park­ing and admission.

Pitts­burgh Children’s Museum

Climb a two-story indoor tree struc­ture, build and launch air­planes, and put on your own pup­pet show in Mr. Rogers’ Neigh­bor­hood. There’s a spe­cial explo­ration area for infants and tod­dlers, edu­ca­tional classes and birth­day par­ties for kids 4–104!

Pitts­burgh Zoo & Aquarium

One of the largest zoo/aquarium com­bi­na­tions in the coun­try and much eas­ier on the pock­et­book than most! Thirty-nine endan­gered species, nearly 4,000 ani­mals and an excel­lent children’s zoo, Kids King­dom, with inter­ac­tive exhibits and playground.

Point State Park

Most Pitts­burghers don’t real­ize that the Point, located at the tip of Pittsburgh’s Golden Tri­an­gle, is a state park. Pittsburgh’s four rivers con­nect here: the Allegheny and Monon­ga­hela form the Ohio and an under­ground river feeds the large cen­ter­piece foun­tain. Don’t miss the Fort Pitt Museum and Block­house!

Sand­cas­tle Water Park

If it’s a really hot day, you’ll want to spend it at Sand­cas­tle, claimed to be America’s largest water­slide com­plex. This river­front park con­tains a 1,600-foot lazy river, a beach, a board­walk and 16 water­slides. Open June through August.

Sen­a­tor John Heinz Pitts­burgh Regional His­tory Center

From the pre-revolutionary drama of the French and Indian War to the leg­endary grid­iron match-ups of the Super Steel­ers, dis­cover West­ern Pennsylvania’s fas­ci­nat­ing his­tory at Pennsylvania’s largest his­tory museum. Hands-on, inter­ac­tive exhibits make his­tory fun for young and old.

The Pitts­burgh Aquarium

Shaped like a giant wave, the aquar­ium build­ing at the Pitts­burgh Zoo and Aquar­ium, leads both young and old on an edu­ca­tional adven­ture that blends excite­ment, reflec­tion, and just plain fun.

UPMC Sports­Works

Located in its own build­ing adja­cent to the Carnegie Sci­ence Cen­ter and across from Heinz Field in Pitts­burgh, UPMC Sports­Works con­tains 40+ exhibits spread out over 36,000 square feet, mak­ing it the largest sci­ence and sport exhi­bi­tion in the world.
